Apple (AAPL.O) announced on Saturday that it has successfully identified several factors responsible for causing new iPhones to experience higher-than-expected temperatures. Among these issues is a bug discovered in the iOS 17 software, which is set to be addressed in an upcoming update.
Responding to customer concerns regarding the warmth of the new iPhones, Apple explained that during the initial setup or device restoration, users might perceive increased warmth due to heightened background activity. Additionally, Apple acknowledged that certain recent updates to third-party applications have been overloading the system. The company is actively collaborating with app developers to rectify these issues and is in the process of rolling out fixes.
Notable third-party apps implicated in causing overheating include Asphalt 9, Meta’s (META.O) Instagram, and Uber. It’s worth noting that Instagram has already resolved the issue with its app as of September 27th. Importantly, the forthcoming iOS 17 bug fix is not expected to compromise the iPhone’s performance in addressing temperature concerns.
Apple, headquartered in Cupertino, California, clarified that the overheating problem does not affect the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max due to their design, with the new titanium shells enhancing heat dissipation compared to earlier stainless steel models. The company further emphasized that this issue does not pose any safety or injury risk and will not impact the long-term performance of the affected phones.
